REYNALDO QUIJADA
Filmmaker I Artist
My story doesn’t start with a camera in my hands or a childhood dream of making movies. It starts with an obsession: telling stories...
I’m Reynaldo Quijada, a filmmaker and visual artist—as Venezuelan as an arepa and as Galician as octopus. I’ve shot in so many places that sometimes I don’t even know what time zone I’m in. My life has been a journey through advertising, film, and art, always searching for new ways to move, surprise, and connect with audiences.
I studied Film Directing at ESCAC in Barcelona, but my real education came from being on set, where the script never quite went as planned (that’s where the magic happens). My career kicked off in Panama, diving into the deep end with "Narcos" SERIES on Netflix and the boxing biopic "Hands of Stone", about the legendary Roberto Durán. But I wanted more. So, I founded ReyFilms, my own production company, and threw myself into writing, directing, and producing stories that made their way to festivals around the world—Seoul, Cannes, Lagos, Toronto, Buenos Aires, San Diego... My projects have traveled even more than I have.
I’ve directed, produced, and edited commercial campaigns across Latin America and Europe, helping brands and companies turn ideas into powerful narratives. In 2018, I joined Albiñana, where I didn’t just shoot commercials in LATAM AND EUROPE—I also launched their Panama office, bridging creative talent between Europe and Latin America.
But my creative compass is always pushing me further. That’s how "La Forma de la Luz" was born—an artistic project where I developed a new technique that merges photography, digital design, and storytelling: Luzogrativa. My work has been exhibited in Barcelona, Madrid, Monaco, Milan, and Panama.
In 2021, the Hayah International Short Film Festival in Panama invited me to curate and program its official selection. An incredible opportunity to amplify new voices and bring fresh stories to light (Something I continue to do today and that every year is a beautiful adventure.).
Then, in 2024, that creative compass led me to Vigo, Galicia. Here, I opened a new ReyFilms office, became a member of the Galician Academy of Audiovisual Arts, and joined the Galician Directors’ Association (CREA). And something unexpected happened—I dove headfirst into an entirely new world: Galician football and its stories. I started filming documentary content for teams and players, discovering that football here is much more than a sport—it’s identity, afouteza, and history.
That journey through football unexpectedly took me all the way to Bischofshofen, Austria, a small alpine town where skiing is a religion. There, I filmed a short documentary about a football club whose philosophy is all about human values and character building. A team with more heart than budget, proving that anywhere in the world, football can be a tool for change.
And now, the journey continues. I’m developing my first feature film: The Man Who Launched Color into Space, the first biopic on the Master of Color, Carlos Cruz-Diez.
My story isn't a straight line. It's a path full of sharp turns, leaps of faith, failures (I've bankrupted my production company twice and I'm still hoping not to bankrupt it a third time 😅), and definitely one of unexpected twists. But if I've learned anything, it's that the best stories are the ones that take you out of your comfort zone. And honestly? I don't even remember where mine was. 🚀🎬
